A PITIFUL CASE
At the Stratford Hospital Board meeting Mr. Marfell mentioned a pitiful case. It was that of a mail who resides on the Toko road, and who lias been ill in bed for the last nine weeks. He does tget sufficient attention, owing to the that his wife lias to be away every earning a living for the family. The doctor lui si not seen him. and his condition is precarious. He had offered to bring the man in, but he could not possibly come in even in a cab. It would be necessary to send the doctor to liim. ( Mr. Kennedy said the wife was the. breadwinner of the' family, and would probably be offended if it was made a charitable aid case. , Mr. Maxwell said the man had been to Rotorua and Hanmer at the Government expense. He was afflicted with chronic rheumatism, and doctors could do him 110 goocF. Mr. Marfell: ''lt will be a -scandal if the man is allowed to die." Tlve chairman: "ft seems difficult to •realise that a man should be in such a position right in the midst of civilisation, with neighbors all around him." It was resolved that the chairman ask Dr. Carberry to attend the afflicted man and report on the case. The question of liability for payment of medical fees was left over.
