THE OTIRA ACCIDENT

ENTOMBED MEN SAFE. BUT STILL UXRESOUED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Grey mouth. Yesterday. A Star reporter at the Otira wires: "Dr. Mcßrearty will bring four men over here as soon as he can get driven through. These have lieen attended to through the night and will now be aide to be moved. The work of relieving the others still in the tunnel is going on. Beemer has been recovered uninjured. The other two men are being fed through an air pipe. A side tunnel is being put in, and it will take twenty-four hours to get at them." The special train will not reach Jiere' till late this afternoon.

The Star reporter wires that the injured men reached Otira at 11.30 a.m. Baird appears to be the worst, groaning with great pain'. Tie was got out at 10 o'clock last night. Beemer was in a precarious position, but gave a smile when Miss O'Malley gave him a cup of beef tea. Claude Bray is suffering from a broken leg. He does not seem to feel any pain. Georgs Pits was aihle to climb in the carriage. He is suil'ering from an injury to his back. Food continues t.o hj? passed into the two men in the tunnel. The side tunnel was expected to be finished bv mid-dav. A special left Otira at mid-day with the injured.

SPECIAL TRATN BEACHES GREYMOUTH. Greymouth. Last Niglit. The special train has just, returned from Otira with four of the injured men, two of the most serious cases having had special attention. The injured men vere cheerful on arrival here, though suil'ering from their injuries. The doctor and nurse were constantly in attendance on Beemer and Baird. and are far more hopeful than at Otira. The two men, John Duggan and James Doyle, are still in the tunnel, but apparently thev are unhurt, as they indicate by tapping the pipes that they are content and waiting the completion of the side tunnel, which will release them, (probably to-night. THE ENTOMBED MEN. EXPECTED TO RELEASE THEM TO-DAY. Greymouth. Last Night. The injuries of Beemer are considered serious. The two entombed miners are in communication with outside liy means of the air nine, mil are well. It. is expected thev will 'be rescued by to-m'orrow.
