PICNIC AND SPORTS.

TARIKI CHEESE FACTORY. (From Our Own Correspondent). Although rather late in the season, the above, which was held on the 28th inst. in Mr. Stratford's paddock, were {avourecl with perfect weather. The bitter J southerly winds we have lately been, having subsided early in the morning and a bright warm day and dry under foot nißde ideal conditions for the function. A large number of shareholders, local residents and visitors attended, and a very enjoyable day was spent. The sports committee, consisting of Messrs. Stephenson, Harkness, H. Kerr, Horn, M. Jones, Riely, Nicholson, Harrison, H. Knowles, Stratford, Schrieder and Sims, are to be congratulated on the excellent programme provided. There were good entries lor all the events and well contested anil close finishes were the order of the day. Unlike some of the big athletic meetings there was no "stiff" running, the competitors being evidently all out to win, which, though causing a little argument between the starters in some of the .post entry events and the handicappers, on the whole resulted in really good sport. Messrs. Percival and 11. Thompson as judges and Mr. T. Gardner as handicapper gave every satisfaction. Mr. C. F. Young was starter and got his fields away in good style. Mr. McDonald (the lion, secretary) also deserves every praise for the way he. carried out his arduous duties. Mr. H. Kerr, the Austraslaian walking champion, was judge for the half mile walking race, which was one of the best events of the day. Mr. W. H. Rudkin had charge oi the refreshment booth and when once lie got his second wind kept a good pace till the finish. Special prizes and trophies were donated by Messrs. Hawke (Inglewood), B. Burgess (Stratford), Hannah aiid Co. (Stratford), Sutherland Bros. (Inglewood), T. Mercer (Stratford), W. C. Price (Stratford), Edwards (Stratford), A. Leslie (Inglewood), J. Therkleson (Tariki), W.
