WELLINGTON SENTENCES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. At the Supreme Court to-day Joseph Walker, seaman, was sentenced to nine rorntlis' imprisonment for stealing 1 a lady's dressing-case on the Moeraki. James Stevens, who pleaded guilty at Dannevirke to a charge of wounding with intent, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Harry Williamson, on two charges of theft at Stratford, received three months. CHINESE ASSAULT CASE. Wellington, Saturday. Jim Wong Sing appeared in Court to-day on a charge of assaulting Young Kee in the Chinese quarter of the town last night. Sub-Inspector Norwood said Kee was not in a fit state to appear. He,i had just returned from a drive in a taxi-cab with a female companion, when Sing struck him on the head with an iron bar, inflicting a severe wound. When bail was asked for the police urged that it be substantial, as Kee had refused to stay at the hospital, and had gone home. Bail was granted, a personal bond for £BO and two sureties of £4O each, and Sing was remanded till May 0. MOTOR CAR DRIVER FINED. Dunedin, Saturday. David Laurv Hatton, the driver ot a motor car, for failing to keep to the proper side of the road, was fined £4 and costs. He collided with an express.
