GOVERNMENT HOUSE

PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. A deputation of citizens waited on the Mayor and the Mayor-elect to-day, and asked the Mayor to convene a public meeting to permit of an expression of opinion on the action of the Government in dismantling Government House. It was stated a strong feeling, amounting to indignation, prevailed in Auckland. It was urged that even if the University site was required it should not be secured at the expense of si;ch an institution as Government House.

Messrs. Grey and Bagnall expressed themselves in accord with these views, and it was agreed to convene a public meeting for next week.
