EMPLOYER AND EMPLOYED.
A LABOR COMPLAINT.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Duncdiii, Last Night. The General Laborers' Union has decided to bring under the notice of the Minister of Labor a complaint to the effect that Mr. W. Scott, the employers' representative on the Arbitration Court, recently advised employers to resist the demands of the union, which is of opinion that Mr. Scott 'has violated section 73 of the Arbitration Act by advising "that some of the union's demands were unfair."
When spoken to with reference to the matter, Mr. Scott said that when he was approached by the City Council he stated distinctly that he could not attend the conference or take any part in suck a thing. All he could do was to give information as to what the Court had done in the other centres. He forwarded a copy of the latest awards in the North dealing with »eneral laborers, and recommended thaw if they held a conference with the workers they should take the latest awards as a basis of settlement. He said if this were done he did npt think, providing the thing -was approached in a reasonable spirit by both sides, there would be any necessity for a case to come before the Court. So far as the words "fair" and ''unfair" were concerned in connection with the ''demands," he never made use of any such words. . Mr. Scott also states that in fonvardpng copies of Northern awards he stated j that in his opinion the General Laborers' Union had a just grievance, and that laborers were not in as sjood a position as were their fellow-workers jn the North. His report was, he asserts, more in favor of workers than employers.
