Received April 29, 9.30 p.m. Melbourne, ,April 29. The new Ministry for the Commonwealth has been formed by Mr. Fisher, Li .ider of the Labor Party, as follows: Premier and Treasurer—Mr Fisher. Minister for External Affairs Mr. Batchelor.

Minister for Defence—Mr. Pearce. Attorney-General—Mr. Hughes. , Minister for Home Affairs—Mr. King O'Malley. Minister for Trade and Customs—Mr. Tudor. Postmaster-General—Mr. Thomas. A 7 ice-presidents of the Executive and Honorary Ministers—Messrs. Frzaer and I'indlay, while Mr. C. K. McDonald, of Queensland, has been chosen as the Party's candidate for the Speakership, and Mr. Poynton, of South Australia, for the Chairmanship of Committees. THE FEDERAL MINISTRY. SWORX-IN YESTERDAY. Received April 30, 0.15 a.m. Melbourne, Last Night. The selection of the Ministry by ballot did not reveal the number of'votes cast for <£ich. One ballot sufficed for the election of three Ministers in the Senate. For the House each member of the caucus wrote six names. Mr. Hughes headed the poll, with Mr. Batchelor second and Mr. Tiidor third. These were the only members who received a majority of the votes •wist. A dozen or so who had not received live votes each were then dropped out. and a second ballot was taken for the nine left in. These were Messrs. Brown, Thomas, Frazer. Spence, AVebster, Matthews, Mahon. O'Malley, and Roberts. This ballot placed Thomas at the too, O'Malley second, and Frazer third. The Ministry postponed selecting their candidate for the Presidency and Chairmanship of Committees till a fortnight before Parliament assembles. The new Ministers were sworn-in tonight. THE NEW CABINET SELECTION. Melbourne, April 29. The Labor Party to-day holds a ballot for the selection of a Ministry. At the request of Sir Robert Best the Senate votes will be recounted. Mr. W. M. Hughes, speaking at a social function, said that if land values were not taxed by this Parliament, r,nen the Lalbor Party would not deserve to get into the Federal Parliament again. The State Treasurer has announced that the Government intends to pro ceed with land tax Bills this year.

ELECTORAL ACTIVITY. IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydnev, April 29. Roused by the result of the Fedeinl elections the State Liberal Party is actively organising for the coming election. A movement is also afoot for reorganising the party throughout the Commonwealth.
