Reuter reports that in Atlanta and Georgie the destruction of the cotton belt was the most disastrous set-lhack since the Civil War. The cottonseed oil mills have been requested not to crush until farmers have been supplied with sullicient seed i for replanting. It is doubtful whether sufficient seed will be procured to sow half the area devastated. Orchards and gardens in the Mississippi Valley resembled a bivouacked army, owing to the wood, coal and straw fires burning throughout the night. Blankets and quilts are being used in thousands of cases to protect blossoming trees.
