A cyclonic storm swept Mcßoss Bay, and a lighter with several thousand ingots of tin, moored alongside the P. and O. steamer Morea, broke adrift and collided violently with the Orient steamer Orvieto, and foundered.

The master of the lighter and his wife 1 and the seamen were rescued with some difficulty.
