"INDUSTRIAL WEEK."
EMPLOYERS' ASSOCIATION'S DECISION. A general meeting of tlie Mew Plymuitti Employers' Association was held hist, evening to discuss the advisability of holding an industrial exhibition'durthe winter show week. There wasbut a small attendance, and Mr. H. tioodaoro (president) presided.
The ehairinan and ".Messrs. Am bury a:id A. K. Sykes spoke in favor of holding the exhibition, and it was unanimously agreed to give ell'eet to the proposal, the following committee fwing appointed to make the necessary arrangements: Messrs. 11. Ooodacre, W. Weston, A. E. Svkes, A. K. Humphries. W. Sole, J. Abbott, 'J'. ■('. List, A. H. Arnold, T. Avery, W. .1. Peun, P. Wlute, C. tarter, U. Stewart. F. liellringer, E. Dingle, C. E. Pakcr, A. K. Lennon, (4. 11. I.imlstrum. F. Okey. E. Snowball and C. Ahier.
The feeling was general that the Asswiation should do whatever it could to push forward and make a success of the whiter show. and. if necessary, cooperate with the Agricultural Society. Asked as to the best way in w.ueh tlio Association could help the .Society, Mr. Anibury said members of the Assoeiation could do a lot for the show by '"talking it up for all it is worth." He mentioned that the lhuvera people were doing this and thus were taking a leaf out of the book of the Americans, who on taking up a thing, never spared them-. selves or stopped "talking it up" till sutcess was achieved. ' .Members could also help by acting as stewards, etc. }]■? stated that a committee was now engaged in waiting upon (business people for financial support, aTul already a, considerable amount had been promised. He felt sure that the display in the shops would prove an additional attraction. During show week an important football' match. Stratford v. Stars, would be played, and on that day they would arrange for a special train from down the line, sav, from Stratford.
Considerable discussion ensued on a proposition to donate a special prize or prizes to the winter show, but it was shown that the rules of the Society would not permit of this being dorfe. It was arranged that, the chairman ami secretary wait upon the merchants for subscriptions for promoting the industries display.
Mr. Sykes and the secretary were appointed an advertising committee.
THE MOUXTAIX HOUSE.
The .president detailed what the special <on\mittee set up by the Association liad done in connection with the Moiratain House. They had interviewed thf (.'merriment and found that there was no i-liance of it doing anything in tiie direction of erecting an iip-to-date accommodation house, tlie Government's policy being to free itself of all such places, ibut they bad the assurance that ♦ lie Government would place no obstacle in the wav of private enterprise proceeding with the project, As all knew, this had been done, with gratifying results, over 12000 towards the cost already being guaranteed. lie had no doubt that in a few months the house would be an accomplished fact and prove a standing monument to those who had initiated the work, namely, the Association's committee. Mr. (ioodacre proceeded to refer to the apathy characterising local polities, reference to which is made elsewhere.
