THE COTTON SWINDLE.
SPECULATORS LOSE HEAVILY. THOSE FORGED BILLS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. [Received April 24/ 5 p.m. ondon, April 23. The -Manchester "ttardian states that Knight and Yance \ cotton brokers, had been in the habit o? sending forged bills of lading to themselves and retaining the genuine documents. When the irregularities were discovered the Liverpool and other European importers forced Knight and Yancey to file their petition in bankruptcy. It is still doubtful whether, there is cotton against the bills, representing 45.000 bales in Liverpool and valued at £75,000. New York cables state that the most spurious of the bills are held abroad. The losses in Europe will amount to four million dollars, including one held by a Russian firm amounting to 750,000 dollars. New York firms will lose one million dollars.
