THE TARANAKI COMPAXY. ENQUIRY FOR THE CRUDE OIL. At a meeting of the. directors of tile Taranaki Petroleum Company last evening, an enquiry was received from an Australian linn for the crude petroleum. The firm ill question is placing upon the Australian market a new system of gas generating suitable for iighting and

power purposes, mid mule petroleum is a most suitable oil for the purpose. The firm said: "Our demand for oils runs into thousands of tons per year. Subject to 'your oils being of a standard quality and price suitable, we would be prepared to enter into a yearly contract of not less than ten thousand tons, we to take delivery at your works or at any other port in Australasia, luir test purposes we should be pleased to be, supplied with one ton of the oil, for "which we will post you cheque whiv notified as to cost. When writing please state what quantity over and above the ten thousand tons you could supply should we enter into a contract with your company."

It was decided to forward the sample ton, and if it proves suitable to quote for larger quantities. A ton, it might, be mentioned, is equal to six barrels, or 25U gallons. It was decided to put on the market by tender 0(10 forfeited shares. There is nothing fresh to report from the bores. Drilling operations are still being carried on at No. 2, whilst work is proceeding at Xos. 1 and 3.
