ELECTING A CHAIRMAN.
QUESTION OF VALIDITY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Ashburton, Lust Night. A special meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard was held to-day. at which Dr. Valintine was present. The question of the validity of the election of a chairman was dealt with.
Mr. Hugo Friedlaiuler had been elected chairman at the first meeting of the Board held 011 Ist April, on the casting vote of the returning officer. Mr. Henry Davies, the other candidate, protested, and referred the matter to Dr. Valintine for a decision.
Dr. Valintine replied stating that the election was invalid, and after fully discussing the matter to-day Dr. Valintine said there was 110 doubt the procedure regarding the election of "Mr. Friedlander was questionable in the strict terms of the Act, according to his interpretation. But section 12!) of the Act made an absolute promise for the settlement of the difficulty, and he won!rl strongly suggest that Mr. Friedlander should continue to occupy the chair as the recognised elected chairman of the Board pending tne pleasure of the Governor.
