HILLSBOROUGH. (From an occasional correspondent.) A fresh record for enjoyment at socia functions at Hillsborough was establish ed on Thursday evening, when there was a very large gathering of friends of Mr and jilrs. Jas. Hill and family to celebrate the ''earning of age" of their son Mr. Frank Hill, of Marton. The function | took the form of a social gathering, with a capital programme of songs, dances,] recitations, and so oil. A bounteous supper was Served. The Misses Bishop and Messrs Tunbridge and Bishop sup-1 plied the music for the dancing. Afterj supper the health of Mr. Frank Hill was toasted:, at tlie instance of Mr. H. Okey, M.P., who made reference to the long residence of the family in the district and wished all its members a continuance of that prosperity wliich was l evi dently theirs. Mr. Aaron Marsh follow ed on' similar lines, and, on behalf of the settlers, presented Mr Frank Hill with a travelling bag bearing an inscribed presentation plate, the re ! cipient suitably returning thanks. The health of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hill was honoured, also at the instance of Mr. Okey, who described their host and hos'tsss as settlers of t.he right type for the country. Mr. Hill returned thanks. The speech-making over, dancing was renewed with increased zest, and it was three o'clock before the last couple forsook the floor. The company 'formed' the circle of friends and sang "Auld Lang Syne," cheers for Mr. and Mrs Hill completing the function.
