EAST END CLUB. During the past week, th« New Plymouth East Flying Club have decided three events for young birds. The first race was flown from Eltham, a distance of 28 miles air-line, and marked the opening of the\ second hamper pro-' gramme in which the birds participating were hatched since November Ist, 1001° Thirty-five birds competed, representing eight lofts, and, being favored with: glorious weather, a very close resulted j as follows:—W. H. Boulton's "Ladybird," | 36min 30sec., 1; H. J. Moverley's "Redan" and C. R. Wright'-s "Rosette," 36 | min 45sec., 2; James Bros.' "Pilot," 37 : min., 3.

The second event was a teams' interval race for first hamper birds, and was flown from Wanganui (86 miles). The. conditions were that each member •had to "time in" the three birds constituting a team. Each, team was liberated at intervals of twelve minutes, the "despatch" being in the capable hands of Mr. C. Ryland, whose willing assistance to the club is greatly appreciated. The teams recording the fastest times »were: —W. H. Boulton's, 2hr. 17min., 1; H. Arnoldt's, 2hr. 24min. 15sec., 2; H. 3. Moverley's, 2hr. 34min. 20sec., 3; James Bros.', 2hr. 36min. lOsec., 4. On Thursday afternoon the club held a flock race from Waverley (58 miles). The birds were kindly liberated by the stationmaster at 11.45 a.m. The weather conditions were most unfavorable, a strong northerly head wind, with intermittent heavy rain and a thunder storm existing during the progress of the race, (which mitigated against fast times being recorded, although the result may be considered satisfactory, as the ma jority of theijirds homed in good "time.
