BURGLARY AT RAHOTU.
ARREST BY CONSTABLE' HICKMAN. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A little excitement was caused on Sunday morning when it was known that some person had broken into the Rahotu Hotel between midnight on Saturday and 6 o'clock on Sunday morning. Entrance had been effected through the,front window of the bar by pushing the-"catch hack, lifting up the bottom sash, and cutting a batten which was nailed across the window. The' thief did not get much for his trouble, the till (which had been pulled out of its place) Being empty, Mr. Hood, proprietor of the hotel, having- taken the precaution to empty it when closing up on Saturday night. So far the only thing missing is a quantity of cigarettes. The matter was reported to Constable Hickman at Onunake between 9 and 10 o'clock on Sunday mornina:. He at once went to Rahotu, and about noon the same day arrested a vonng man named Tom Burns for the offence. On searching- him about twenty packets of cigarettes were found in his possession, which corresponded with the quantify stolen. The constable, moreover, 'was fortunate in findintr amongst the accused's effects. several articles that had been missed' from the Rahotu Hotel, all of which have been identifier!.
