BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Following reports will be submitted to the monthly meeting of the Xew Plymouth Borough Council:—

ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTEE.

That in view of the fact that the Council does not intend to proceed with the work mentioned in his scheme, Mr Cliniie by requested to send in his account for the services rendered by him to the Council.

That Messrs Orbell and Mackay he informed that the Council do not require the services of a. hydraulic engineer at present.

iliat the Electrical Engineer submit an estimate of the cost of installing a regulating apparatus in connection with the electric current for kinematograph work at the Theatre Royal, so as to enable the current to be controlled by l-J'e .person operating the kinematognifjli'. _ .... That the manager of ITowKPs ITeFffo Company he, informed that the Council cannot ita way to supply electric light as requested by him tit power rate.

That the committee record its appreciation of the manner in which the electric light staff performed its duties under trying circumstances during the recent heavy gale, and of the prompt manner in which repairs were effected.

That the twelve 100 c.p. Osram lights destroyed during the gale be feplaced, and that a 100 c.p. Osram. light be placed in Vivian street, opposite St. .Mary's Church.

That the Electrical Engineer's report of the cost of motor generator and battery, etc., be referred to the Tramways Committee.

That the Electrical Engineer procure and submit to the committee prices for three miles of insulated wire for consumers'' service leads (to include prices from local tradesmen). That on making satisfactory arrangements for the carrying on of his work during 'his absence the Electrical Engineer be granted a month's holiday.

RESERVES COMMITTEE.

This committee recommends

That the lessee be informed that unless; he takes steps to I immediately comply with the provisions of his' lease of the old Waterworks Reserve with regard to keeping the land clear of furze, bramble, briar' and other noxious weeds and .plants, and with regard to keeping the fences in good order, repair and condition, the Council will take .steps to re-enter on the land and terminate the lease.

That the Borough Engineer instruct the custodian of the waterworks that the Council expects him to visit the old Waterworks Reserve once a month and to report regularly as to its condition.

That the chairman be authorised to provide extra assistance for the sexton /in cleaning up the cemetery, rendered necessary by the recent gale. That the offer of the Central Battalion of Boy Scouts to keep the graves of the old soldiers at the cemetery in order be accepted with t'hanks, the work to lie carried out under the supervision of the sexton. ABATTOIRS COMMITTEE. The Abattoirs Committee recommends that the letter from the Secretary for Agriculture with reference to the extension of the abattoir district he received, and that pending the Agricultural Department obtaining an opinion on the legal question raised by the County Council no further action be taken in the matter.

BY-LAWS COMMITTEE,

The committee recommends that in view of the new matters rais'ed by Councillor Wilson, the question of advertising the by-laws be deferred, and the whole question be referred to the borough solicitor to prepare an amendment to the by-law dealing with the removal of nightsoil in the direction indicated.

■ WpRKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee will recommend: — That Mr. Cook be inform id that his letter re t'he formation of P iff.ierlmm street, opposite part section 923 a, will be considered after the contract for ths Powderhaan street culvert ha* been completed. That the offer of the Harbour Board to sell the necessary land required to widen Gill street extension (lift. 3in.) at £'2s per foot be accepted, ajid that the question of payment be left in the hands of the chairman of the Finance Committee to make the best arrangements possible. That the seal of the Council be affixed to the lease, School Commissioners to the borough, of section 333, 334 and 368, New Plymouth, and thut Councillors Gilbert and Hooker be ap' pointed to sign the lease on behalf of the Council.

That the Hon. T. Kelly be informed that the.. Council cannot sea its way to place a street lamp in Buller street, is requested by him.

That the. Taranaki Petroleum Company be informed that the Council sccept with thanks their offer to supp y a quantity of refuse oil for a test for rpad dressing, but cannot stee its wtv at present to definitely fix the locality of the test.

That the Borough Engineer be instructed to 'fix indicators for all fire plugs in the borough. « That a copy of the report of the Borough Engineer re Clemow road, and also a copy of paragraph 5 of tie agreement with the board, be forw<uded to the Fitzroy Town Board, and they be requested to take such st'pa as may be necessary to keep the road open for traffic at the point whev. it ;s) being carried away throu^ 1 -: erosion by the Waiwakaiho river. That the Borough Engineer be instructed to prepare a plan of the land required from the Harbour Board a,t the corner of Queen and St. Aabyn streets.

That Mr Chaney be informed that the Council does not intend to take any steps at present to open up Barrett street between Standish stress and Frankley road.

That the Borough Engineer be au thorised to cut down the trees on Cirrington road, near Mr. Wells' rest dence.

That the Borough Engineer be instructed to dismantle such portions ol the old waterworks! as may be of value to the borough, and that he be instructed to destroy both ends of the old ladder. to prevent access to same.

!j That in accordance with his previous j recommendation, the Borough Engineer be instructed to lay a Gin. water piDe in Currie street from Gill street to the railway gates. That the Borough Engineer submit a list of the owners of those properties adjacent to the sewers' not yet conceeted.
