ALLEGED FORGERY.

CLERK COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph.—Prwra A»ioei*i Invercargill, Last Night. Joseph Archibald Mackay, a clerk in the employ of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, and managing its department at the Bluff, was to-day committed for trial on a charge of forging a name on the wagessheet of the company. The defence was that the practice was followed in order that Mackay might recoup himself for outlay in tip's to aid speedy transaction of the company's business^. It .was also alleged that at least some of the other clerks knew that this was being done.
