NORTH ISLAND RAILWAYS.
OBTAINING FAIR PLAY. , By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hastings, April 5. The Chamber of Commerce discussed, anomalies in the railway fares and freights, and resolved to write to ail Chambers in the North Island, asking if they favour the formation of a Nortlr Island Railways League, composed in th« first instance of members of Chamber* of Commerce, for the purpose ot" endeavouring to get the North Island members of Parliament to combine and obtain fair piny in railway management' and expenditure generally. ■ Auckland. April 5.
Mr Gunson, chairman of the Cham« J her of Commerce, says the proposal to form a North Island League, rmnnat- ij isg from Hastings, is by no mean* '4 new, having been discussed by the* J Auckland chamber from time to time, j Hi opinion is that the time is cer« f tainly ripe for carrying into effect '"% something like this. The members of I the Auckland chamber are of one nnmt J on the subject, and the chamber baa) .J been working quietly with the Auck- 1 land Railway League to further U)«vJ interest'of (he nortb-'-n lines. NftWJa that the North T*i»-' holds' the bal-Sl ance of power in Pa "nment it is forjj the members concerned to try soiß#J| united p"timi. which should have Mtffl npnreciable effect. There seem* 1 801 l reason why the Government should *0« l be forced to wive that, attention the railway lines of the North that 'wM the past ha* been given to the amitJM end of the Dominion to the detrimenfH of northern interests.
