WALKING MATCH AT AUCKLAND, KERR MEETS WILSON. By Telegraph—Press As»o«iatton. Auckland, April 3. ■ Considerable interest was taken io tho two-mile walking match. between D. Wilson, of Auckland, and H. Kerr, of Wellington, which was decided at the autumn carnival of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club yesterday. The race was the outcome of the dissatisfaction expressed at thts judges action in the New Zealand Championship walking races by Keir and his party. In yesterday's race Mr F. W. Coombes, sporting editor of the New Zealand Times, but formerly of Auckland, mas mutuailjj agreed to by the competitors' as judge. Wilson led for the first half mile; when Kerr parsed him. .Tu the sixth lap Wilson was cautioned for lifting. Kerr kept in the lead until the straight was entered, when Wilson spurted. He had just headed Kern when the judge called 'him off, nnd Kerr finished alone. The mile was •done in 7 minutes 21 3-ssec, and the two miles in 14 minutes 21 3-ssee.
In the mile race, in which both men took .part from scratch. Kerr made most of the pace, but was passed 100 yards from home by Wilson, in a spnrC, the latter eventually winning by three yards. Time, Gmin ."Osec.
The judge said he was doubtful about Wilson in the concluding stages, but there was not sufficient break to justify calling him off.
