The saulling race for the championship of the world between Dick Arnst (the present holder) and George Wheleli of Akaroa, challenger, took place on Akaroa liarhmtr this afternoon, after being po-honed from Saturday last, on account of sea weather.
Tlie weather was fine, but there was a nas'tv jobble on the sen. This gave Wheleli much trouble. There was some delay at the start, but the men finally got away together by mutual consent. Wheleh set out with 42 strokes) to the minute. Arnst re-ponded with 32. Wheleli drew ahead for a short distance. but Anist soon ; pas3ed him and kept an easy lead from then to the finish, winning by three lengths. Arnst pulled a slow, powerful stroke, which kept hi* boat moving through: the water at a good speed. Whclch could not get going on nc* count of the jobble, but he .put on nome good spurts, and fmis'hed quite fast. Time, 'lmln .10 .l-osec.
Arnst leaves rm Thursday for Sydney to compete in handicap events oil the Vnmmnth river. Prom there lie leaves for South Africa to meet Barry on the Zambesi river in August.
