AUSTRALIAN SILVER COINAGE. By Telegraph.—Prest Association. Wellington, Last Night. To-night the Evening Post states there is every probability of the Banics of New Zealand refusing to accept tne new Australian silver coinage. The Government will, it is understood, support the banks in their attitude.
OPEN GAME SEASON. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Acclimatisation Society to-day received the following telegram from Mr Hugh Pollen, Under-.seerctary for Internal Affairs:—"lt is proposed to notify an open season for your district for one month, from May 14 to .Tune 14, for cock pheasant, Australian and Californian quail, black swan and grey duck.* WANGANUT TRAMWAYS. Wanganui, Last Night. The borough tramways have had a successful year. The expenditure exceeded the receipts' by £270, but stocks on hand more than compensate for the deficiency. THE GOVERNOR'S TOUR. Tnv.ercargill, Last Night. His Excellency the Governor, continuing his farewell tour through Southland. received welcomes at various towns'hips en route, and spent to-dav in InTnvereargill. He received addresses from th" country and municipal councils. and will attend a conversazione tonight, TTis Excel! Piiev sleep* in his railway carriage, and starts- early to Gore and other Southland centres.
TARAXAKI ESTATES. Wellington, Monday. The following Tarnnaki estates were certified'for stamp duty last, month:— William Courtney £1374, Phillip Pitcher £1204. GOLD AXD SILVER EXPORTS. Wellington. "Monday. The export of gold from New Zealand Inst quarter was 113,1)76 ounces, valued at -£451.080, which is 3298 ounces, of the value of £15,158, less than during the corresponding period last year. During last month New Zealand exported 30.44!) ounces of gold, valued at £142,841, as compared with 40,044 ounces, valued at £15(5,522, in 3[arch of last year. For the quarter ending last month 410.100 ounces of silver, valued at .£40,033. was exported, as compared with 402.(502 ounces, valued at £40,150, for the March quarter last year.
XO STORAGE FOP RABBITS. Tnvereargill, Monday. Owing to increased activity in the frozen export trade and a shortage of shipping, <lue to the temporary withdrawal of the Kaipara and Papanui, the Southland Frozen Meat and Export Company are closing down both works against rabbits from Saturday first to the end of the month. The Ocean Beach works also contemplate closing for a month. It is anticipated that rabbits will be received again on M May.
FEEDING THE REVENUE. Cliristchurch. Last Night. The amount of Government tax payable by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club under the new Act in connection with the chili's recent meeting at Addington is £707 Ss 4d.
