The "mosquito fleet" at the harbor , -"had a bad time during (he retellt gale , "from the south-east. Alany of the little ! craft were at their moorings when the ■ wind rose, and their owners had no op. portunity, even had they known that ■ the breeze was. going to develop into a i gale, of going oil' to them and bringing >r them ashore. Perhaps it is as well that , this was so, for one or two of the boats i on the beach had a very rough time. , The Awakino, the well-known oil ( launch, which had recently been under s 4 repair at very considerable expense, i tank at her moorings. On i Friday, as the Corinna was entering the port, she met an obstruction in the fair- , way, about ninety feet to seaward of 1 the end of the wharf. Not so long afterwards the stern post of the Awakino .floated ashore, and it was plain that this was what the Corinna had struck. • The hull has not yet been found. ,•.
