Mr. James McLeod, who has for the past four and a-half years filled the position of sub-editor of this journal with conspicuous ability, severs his con■nection with us to-day to join the proprietary of Messrs. J. Hooker and Co. We desire to take this opportunity of attesting our appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. McLeod during this period, which has witnessed a material advancement in the fortunes of the News. Mr. McLeod has contributed to the improvement of the paper in no small degree, and it is only natural that we should regret his severance. At the same time, we recognise that in starting in business on his own account he is ■exhibiting but a common and laudable ambition, and we sincerely hope that he will achieve that success in his enterprise which his undoubted ability and popularity warrant him in anticipating.
