THE HOSPITAL STAFF.

For efficiency no hospital in the Dominion has a better record than the A T ew Plymouth' Hospital, and it would seem that under the new scheme of management brought down by the chairman of the Board on Friday that efficiency will in no way. be disturbed. Indeed, it should be promoted, for instead of two medical officers being connected with the Hospital there will in future be three, without any addition to the cost of working. The duties are to be distributed among the three officers, the most important, of course, being home by the superintendent, who in all matters of administration will be the Board's representative. We presume the chairman has 'been in consultation with the medical gentlemen who are to be offered the respective positions over the matter, and that the scheme he has evolved and outlined is practicable from their standpoint, and that there will be no possibility of overlapping or clashing. If the medical men are satisfied with the proposed arrangements, we feel sure the public will be, as they stand to gain a great deal ami to lose nothing. The Board very sensibly adopted the scheme, and decided to offer the position of superintendent to Dr. Walker, at present assistant surgeon, a position ho has filled with considerable ability and success. We regard it as a most unfortunate circumstance that we have in the district a man of Dr. Walker's attainments, and we know that if he accepts the post, as no doubt he will, the high standard of efficiency ?et by Dr. Leatharn will <be fully maintained, particularly so if associated with him are such capable •men as Dr?. Wvlie and Homo, who .are to be offered the positions of assistant surgeon and extra medical officer respectively.
