CRICKET.
LOW SURING. A dip into "YVisdeu"' would have shown the Auckland l'ics Association agent that the dismissal of a side for no runs was not an unparalleled occurrence. "YVisdeu,' which has but little room for any kind of cricket but the highest class, merely says that in minor matches a side has frequently been disposed oi for no runs. "Lilly white" year by year gives us sonic of these tragedies, and records also many instances of sides making less than 10. In one year wo find recorded, besides a "score" of 0, j no less than four scores of 2, one or b, three of 4, one of 5, four of 0, three of j 7, and four of S. Perhaps no team ever tasted such a cup of bitterness as was forced to the lips of a Gippsland eleven, which was dismissed for 0 and 7. An old book on cricket records a match in England in 185G, in which one side scored 0 and 100, and another in 1524 in j which a side was dismissed .for 4 and 4(i. i In those days, however, the roughness ' of the wickets was some excuse for small scoring. In 1850, the West Gloucestershire Club were out for C, of which 4 were extras. There were ten '"ducks" on the score sheet. "Lillywhite" records . a match in West Australia that was won on the first innings by one stroke. The side that batted first made 4. and ■off the first hit made by the other side , 5 were scored. Why a second innings . was not plaj'ed is not stated. These I small .scores are all in minor cricket. No first-class team has yet been dis- ) missed for a single-ficrurp score. Oxford has a total of 12 to its discredit; Notts one of 13; Victoria and Northampton each one of 15; Gloucester one of 17; one of the Australian teams one of 18; and an M.C.C. team one of 10. Our interprovincial cricket has one or two curiosities, including 13 made by Auckland against Canterbury many years | ago.—Exchange.
