STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Resident Correspondent.) i'rubabiy evu'yno.iv in Stratford has visited the Ngaue Gardens. If nut, it may be here remarked, tliey have the pleasure in store of visiting a remarkably pretty .holiday resort. Nearly every line Thursday and holiday a large number of Stratfordonians make theicr way to this spot to spend the nitfcrliooia. It is evident that the charm and beauty of well-kept grounds are appreciated." Why, then, should Stratford not have gardens or grounds which will provide a pleasure resort is the question which may naturally be asked. There is no. reason at all, provided the public will take suilicieut interest in the matter to enable a start to be made. On previous occasions I have referred to the possibilities of the public grounds through which the Patca river flows and the lack of funds which prevents the present administrators from carrying through work of any magnitude". Stratford possesses a strong horticultural society and a stroll through the suburbs of * the town shows that J the residents do not merely confine their, energies to shows but believe in wellkept 0 gardens at their houses. Under such conditions one might expect _ a greater interest taken in beautifying the public grounds. Many towns have ■ such institutions as "beautifying societies" which have done excellent work.] Probably, the question of the borough ve-amiming control of the domains may come up at the municipal election, and this will bring the matter before the public.
