Sale. Reese, Sims and Rrice all did well throughout the match. Tatceß generally, the New Zealanders' batting was mostly of a >cratchy order, only two having any confidence. These were Briep and Sims, though Sale was going nicely when given out to a doubtful catch behind the \vi<*k«'ts. Hrice's innings of 43 wav a crisp exhibition of hard hitting, the majority of his runs being scored along fjie carpet, Tiie visitors' hatting was c|iiite of a; different order to the local men. showing plenty of confidence. A variety of strokes an>'. a knowledge where to put the ball w»rn outstanding features of both their inning-. Mavnc's inning* of 00 was a fine display of patient? cricket. Ho showed a thorough knowledge of the game, making some beautiful strokes on the ofT-side. His placing and timing were features of his innings. Facy and Whitty shared the bowling honours' of the match, the latfers average of six for 2S being remarkanly good. Whitt.v bowled consistently all through the innings. The Australian eleven leaves for Napier o n Thursday, plays Hawke's Ray on Friday and Saturday and the Monday following. Warne and Hopkins are standing out of the Hawke'w Ray match.
