RIFLE SHOOTING.

RIFLES v. WAXGANUT. A match was tired at Wanganui 011 Easter Saturday .between the Taranaki and Wanganui Rifles, ten men on each 6ide, the ranges being 200, 500 and 600 yds. The wind, though fairly strong, was regular, with the result that some excellent scores were registered. Bugler tSoler was top score for Wanganui with f lOl, Lieut. Marett, for the Rifles, being next with 09. The Wanganui Rifles 1 made the aplendid record of 948 lor t«n men, two points short of 95 a man. The match was won by Wanganui by 56 points. The visitors were treated in n. most hospitable manner. The following iare the scores:— I

WHAXGAMOMONA CLUB, The annual general meeting of the Whangamomona, Defence Rifle Club was held on 19th. March, when business of the -past year was discussed. The .bal-ance-sheet showed a very satisfactory state of affairs. A number ( of new members were elected, and a revival of interest in shooting may ibe predicted. Several trophies were donated and fired for during the year, with the result that the markmanship of members shows a decided improvement. Votes of thank* were passed to tho donors of trophies'; etc. The club has several trophies in hand to be competed for at early date#. Office-bearers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. J. B. Hine, M.P.j vicepatrons, Messrs W. A. McCutchan. jos. McChiggage, W. L. Kennedy and W. Abbott; president and club captain, Mr. T. A. Bradley; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Alex. Klee; committee, Messrs Bradley, Klee and C. E. Bacon.—Mil

VOLUNTEERS v. RIFLE CLUBS. The annual match between the Taranaki "battalion and.the rifle clubs took plaee on the Eltham range on Good Friday in fine weather. Some very good scores were made, "Rifleman Guy (Kaponga), 87, being top score for the clubs, and Pvte. Hopewell (Eltham) and Dewar (Inglewoo?<l), 90 each, for the volunteers. The rifle cluba .won by 40 points. Four matches have now been fired, the volunteer* having won two and the clubs two. The arrangement# for the match were in the hands of tho shooting committee of the Eltham Rifles, assisted by a ladies' eommittee, tha visitors being well pleased with the manner in which the details of tha match were carried out. The conditions were seven shots at 200, 500 and fIOO yds, twenty men a-»ide. Appended are the eeores:—
