GOLF.

E'ASTER TOURNAMENT. , ON THE NGAMOTU LINKS. : The Easter tournament of the Ngamotu Golf .Club is now a well-estab-lished fixture, and the excellent management year by year has made it very popular with golfers from beyond the province. This year's tournament ..iss, attracted large entries', including q<)&■; testants from Auckland, Waverlej, Wanganui, Hawera,- IHglewood, Waitara and Feilding, which club is represented for the first time, sending four competitors. The tournament opened on Saturday morning in good weather, and was continued yesterday, .when the weather conditions approached the golfer's ideal —a light breeze and not too bright sunshine. The warm weather .and heavy rains of late 'had set the Course Com-. mittee a big task, but eventually the course was got into good condition.' After being left as ready, the growth' was so rapid that a lawnmower had to. be used. The greens were in excellent condition, having : sufficient sward to hold the ball for, first-class putting. The management committee, with jvir Cecil Wr'glit as secretary, has left nothing undone that should be done, and j the tournament has proved so far most

enjoyable and successful in every way. The fixture will finish to-day, and the ladies' tournament will commence tomorrow. '' THE CHAMPIONSHIP. For the championship the following eight qualified: G. Saunders 169, W. O'Callaghan 172, I. Saunders 175, A. A | Lewis 175, J. Harold W. Bewley ' 177, D. Meldrum 180, H. H. Ward 181. j In the play-off yesterday Jj Harold j beat G. Saunders, 4 up and 3 to play; . O'Callaghan heat Bewley, 2 up; | heat Meldrum, 6 up and 4 to play; Lewis heat I. Saunders, 2 up and l 1 to play. In the afternoon Harold beat*' O'Callaghan, 2 up and 1 to play; and Lewis heat Ward, 2 up and 1 to play. The final will 'be played to-day at 1j o'clock, when Harold will play Lew's'. Both of them are members of the Balgarnie Club in Wanganui. Thfs should provide a first-class match, as both men are in good form The feature of the championship «o j far was the afternoon match between Ward and Lewis. Both playe'd sterling golf, and hardly a s'troke was thrown away. Had the holes been played out, Ward's score would have been to SO. and Lewis's 76 to 77. As the grass' is long on the fairway, and a stroke played off the line too far .leaves the ball in uncut grass or fern, the piay | must be considered excellent. I The following are the results of the ! tournament fX> far:— ! Taranaki Amateur Championship and Teams Match, combined with medal handicap. Qualifying round of 36 holes, medal play, 8 to qualify.
