SWIMMING.

LIFE SAVING COMPETITIONS.^ The annual life-saving competitions were held at the Baths! on Thursday afternoon in beautiful weather. Six girls I and three boys,' pupils from the West ; End School, competed. Mrs Dowling and her assistants must be compliment- < cd on their effort to develop this, the : humane side of one of the noblest of our pastimes'. It is a great pity that | ] the teachers of other schools do not take a similar interest in this important work. Dr Fookes very kindly acted as judge of the resuscitation work, and Mr A. L. Dixon, secretary of the local Swimming Club, acted as starier ; and timekeeper. The new method of resuscitation devised by Professor B. A. Schafer F.R.S., was adopted, and the j competitors on the whole showed a j •rood knowledge of the work. As will ( be seen from the results below, the girls . did better work than the boys, both in the rescue and resuscitation work. PosI sible points', 80. GIRLS. ResusciR«scu«. tation. Total.
