(From Our Uesiiium. Correspondent.) j Stratford, Last Night, j At the Magistrate's Court to-day, be- > fore Messrs. F. S. Pollock and S. A.! Ward, J.P.'s, two prohibition orders I were issued. An application for another ! order was refused, as there was no ap- \ pearance o* the informant, and the ' order was opposed. Mr. L. Robertson has given his ser-) vices as physical instructor to the Fire { Brigade, and the first lesson took place | this evening. i I understand that Dr. Paget, who is j honorary surgeon to the Fire Brigade,. has consented to give a series of lec- j tures on ambulance work. The inquest on Winifred McGregor,' who was drowned through falling into j a copper of water yesterday, was held i at the Courthouse to-day, before Mr. S. j A. Ward, acting coroner. The evidence j of the mother showed that the child was with her in the house whilst she | •was doing her work. The child went i outside, and witness followed in about [ ten minuies to see what the child was i doing. She found it in a copper two- j thirds full of water. She picked the child out, but did not think it was alive. She took the body over to the Coffee Palace and sent for Dr. Menzies. Dr. Menzies detailed the efforts he made to > resuscitate the child, all of which were unavailing. There were no marks on the bodv. In his opinion the child met its death from asphyxia. The jury, without retiring, returned a verdict of, accidental drowning. Mr. J. Masters' committee have announced that Mf. Masters will proceed •with his candidature for the Mayoralty. The East Coast sheep dog trials will ibe held at Mr. Metcalfe's property at Te Wera on 6th April. The installation of Bro. W. IT. Cricket enthusiasts journeyed to New Plymouth to-day, but the number who took advantage of the excursion fares was not great. Had it been r. football match, Taranaki v. Australia, there would have been nobody left in the town.
