THE DUCO CLAIMS.

SETTLED OUT OF COURT. By Telegraph.—Press' Association. Wellington, Last Night. Two of the claims for compensation brought in the Supreme Court by relatives of members of the crew of the steam trawler Duco, which foundered •between Wellington and the Chatham Islands, have been settled out of court, the owners of the vessel, the Wellington Harbor Ferries Company, Ltd., having agreed to pay a certain sum. To-day a special jury had been summoned for the hearing of the claim brought by Ellen Lang Tucker W.uldilove and William Wardrop Waddilove, executrix and executor respectively of William Waddilove, who was chief officer of the Duco when she was lost. The amount of the claim was £ISOO. It is not stated how much the Ferry Company agreed to pay. The company liad admitted liability under the Workers' Compensation Act, and the maximum amounts payable under this Act are £SOO. Another claim which was to have been investigated by a special jury, and which has also been settled in a similar way, is that of Elizaueth Jane Menard, widow of Alexander Laird Menard, chief engineer of the Duco. The claim in this case was also lor £ISOO. There is at least one other claim against the company still to be dealt with.
