ALARMING LANDSLIDE.
MAORI VILLAGE OVERWHELMED. ENGULFED IX LAKE TAUPO. OXE RESiDEXT KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Taupo correspondent of the New Zealand Herald telegraphs: "I\u alarming landslide occurred at the native settlement of \\ aiiii, a mile westward of fokaanu, on the shores of Lake Taupo yesterday morning, when the hillside behind the village oogan to bodily slip away, and it then forced its way to the laKe, carrying w hares, houses and everytnfng in its track. Hie landslide has' now spread out about three chains into the lake ia deep water. Unfortunately the natives had little warnings, and one of them, named Wi Tamaiwhana, was killed, and others were injured through the falling debris. The hill is still sliding, and the natives are hurrying away Horn Wnihi village, as they expect the whole place to be demolished. It is only a s'hnrt distance lrom where the other memorable landslide occurred in .March 184(1, when the village of Te Rapa was overwhelmed by a landslide and all the inhabitants were killed, except three who escaped, on© of the latter was the mother of WI Tamaiwhara, now killed in this slide. Ihe natives are in a great state of excitement, and are hurrying off witk their household goods' and escaping from what they consider the impending doom of the beautiful village of Waihi.
