BRITISH POLITICS
GIVERNMENT POLICY ATTACKED. MR JOHN REDMOND CALLS IT "ROTTEN." A MASTERLY DECLARATION. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright l London, March 17. Mr John Redmond, speaking at Newcastle, complained oi the "rotten"' policy of the Government, and declared that Sir Edward GreyV, neech on Monday showed that the" Government proposed to relax its grip upon the Budget before the veto question was settled. Dissatisfaction with Sir Edward Grey's speech is increasing. The Liberals complain that he has dispelled the hopes of adjusting the difficulties with the Nationalists. Sir Edward Grey's declaration that the Government intends to proceed with the reform of the House of Lords is extremely distasteful to the Labour party. The Standard states that Sir Edward Grey, Mr Haldane, Lord Wolverhampton, Mr M'Kenna and Lord Crewe insist on combining reform with limitation oi the Lords' power of veto. The British Weekly complains that the Government intends to spring upon the nation a scheme for reforming the Lords and the introduction of the Budget together. With the certainty of defeat, and that they are apparently determined not to approach the King, the enthusiasm of the Nonconformists for the Government is nearly worn out. HONORS FOR MEMBERS. Received March 18, 9.45 p.m. London, March 18. It is officially stated that Sir SamueJ Evans, Liberal member for Mid-Glamor-ganshire, has been created a Privy ' Councillor, and Mr. Rufus Isaacs, vhe J recently-appointed 'Solicitor-General, a I Knight.
