COST TO SEAMEN'S UNION. By Caole. —Frees Association. —Copyright Sydney, March 15. Five Newcastle mines are still idle pending a settlement of minor troubles. The Seamen's Union, during the coal and coastal strikes, paid £11,500 to memfiers out of woiik. An additional ; £6O was paid to other unions'. RESUMPTION OF WORK. Received March 16, 0.50 a.m. Sydney, Last Night. All the northern collieries, with the exception of the Hetton colliery, are at work. That colliery will resume tomorrow. 1 The fleet of vessels awaiting coal a.re now being moved under the cranes. AN ILL WIND, ETC. VICTORIAN SAVINGS. Melbourne, Last Night. The Railway Commissioners by using the Powlett River coal will save £30,000 per annum, while £35,000 in coal freights will be earned this year. It is estimated the railways will earn £75,000 by this means next year.
