IRRIGATION IN AUSTRALIA.

A BIG SCHEME. By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Melbourne, March 14. The report of the Murray Watewj Commission urges that, except for svock and domestic supply and for settlement within a reasonable distance of the streams, irrigation should be deemed the paramount use of the Murray system. The report advocates the canalisation of the Murray and Murrumbidgee rivers by means of locks and weirs. It suggests that in the event of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia failing to come to an agreement regarding the regulation of the raver and its tributaries, an agreement to the same purpose should be entered into between any two of the States concerned. It is further suggested to appoint an inter-State board to consider the whole question.
