FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The nbove sports were hold in the Recreation Grounds on Wednesday. The weather turned out fine, although it t threatened in the morning. There was a fairly large attendance. The course was in very fair order, thanks to the efforts of the working bee. The secetary (Mr. H. Pelham) carried out liis duties very creditably. The Opunake Band enlivened proceedings. The takings at the gate amounted to £l2 10s 6d. Both the sawing events were won by our local men, Messrs Ray Julian and W. B. Clarke. A side-bet chop took place between J. Jaeknish and 0. Julian, which resulted in a win for tne latter. Results:— Novice Chop—J. Barrett 1, Sullivan 2, H. James 3. Also started: C. Maj-on, J. Williams. J. Williams should have won only his axe-handle broke. 100 yds Handicap—T. E. Joe 1, W. H. Corkill 2. Ten started. Maiden Chop (12in block) —E. Symons i, H. Symons 2. Fifteen started. Boys' race (14 years and under), 100 yds—J. Tuku 1, Bernie Judge 2. Nine started. Maiden Double-handed Sawing (1.5!n l°gs)—R, Julian and W. B. Clarke 1, Parson Bros. 2. Also started: G. HiU and mate and Hill Bros. Time, 12s<c. 220 yds Handicap—W. H. Corkill 1, J. Thompson 2> Nine started. A good race. . Stepping the W...Corbe.tt 1, M. The sheep-guessing competition was won by Messrs R. Julian and Rowlanls, who guessed IGTVUbs, the correct wei«Vt being 1671b5.
