SWIMMING.
♦ SWIMMING SPORTS AT THE BATHS. Probably the most successful swimming sports meeting ever held in the municipal baths eventuated last night. There was a splendid attendance, the "fields" were large, and the racing interesting to a degree, most of the finishes being decided almost on touches. There was not a single wait during the evening, every event starting promptly to time, an innovation on which the* officials are to be warmly congratulated. Messrs. H. Stocker and A. R. Standish officiated as judges, and Mr. Lints acted as starter and jußge"a the diving. Mr. A. Mynott as call steward kept the ball rolling. Results:— 150 yds Handicap. Pfankuehj scr, 1; Brown, 4see, 2. Eight started. The best finish of the meeting, the men reaching t'u; rope together, but Pfanikuch touched more smartly than Brown. 50yds Boys' Race.—First heat: Haldane, 2sec, 1; Elliot, 2 sec, 2. Four com. peted. Second heat: Bell, ssec, 1; Bowie, 2sec, 2. Three started. Final: Bell, 1; Bowie, 2.
50yds Ladies' Bracelet. First heat: Hawkins, 3see, 1. Five started. Second heat: Chamberlain. Ssec, 1. Four started. Third heat: Curtis. ssec. 1. Three started. Fourth heat: Whitaker, Usee, 1. Four started. Firth heat: Harle, fisec. 1. Four started. Final: Whitaker, 1; Chamberlain, 2. 100 yds Breaststroke— B. Kivell, Ssec, 1; Trcssider, I2sec, 2. Five started. Turnbull put up a fine race from scratch, and was just beaten for second place. Time, Iniin 28sec. Girls' Race, 50yds.—First heat: Dora Hawke, 9see, 1; Hilda Rollo. osec, 2. Second heat: Ethel Johnson, 3sec, I; Ivy Thompson, Ssec, 2. Final: Dora Hawke, 1: Ethel Johnson, 2. Won on the touch. Diving (springboard and high dive).— Lning, !; A. V. Stohr, 2. Six competed. Two extra dives were necessary before the winner was selected. 50yds Maiden Race.—First heat. Burgess, 7sec, 1; West, Usee, 2. Stcond heat: Chamberlain. Ssec, I; Napier, Usee, ?. Final: Chamberlain, 1; Burgfi?s, 2. Long Dive.—Tressider. 1. Relay Race.—West End (Preshaw, Sfcohr,' Laing, Bristonl, I; Beach (Brown Whitaker. Hawkins, Standish), 2. An exhibition game of water polo between the East" End (the champions) and a combined team irom the West End and Beach was won by East End by 2 goals to 0, Turnbull shooting both goals from over halfway.
