March .. In the House of Commons a Bill was introduced by Mr John Burns for inking the next British census; on the 2nd April, 1011, and was read a first time. The Admiralty has decided to build a Dreadnought dry dock at Portsmouth costing a million "sterling. In the London County Council elections, a recount of the Central Finisbury seat showed Hemphill (Progressive) and Eostron (Moderate) each polled 3460. Of the aldermen continuing in office, nine are moderates, and two progressives; therefore a moderate majority is assured. Two ladies were elected, including a daughter of the chief Rabbi. Despite a possible fie, the moderates secured a plurality of 39,063 j Voias. Forty-eight per cent of the voters went to the poll. Sydney, March S. H.M.S. Encounter, during the whole voyage from Auckland, was in wireless communication with the Powerful in Auckland harbour and the Cambrian in Sydney harbour. The last message from the Powerful was received as the Encounter was entering the harbour. • Melbourne, March 'i. The Minister for Customs has issued a circular to the Presidents of Chambers of Commerce suggesting methods for advancing the interests of Australian manufacturers' and producers. These include bringing before Australians in concrete form the fact that a large number of articles that are now imported can be locally supplied, by means of standing exhibitions of products in capital cities, the issue of a trade journal, the establishment of a commercial branch of the High Commissioner's office, and standing exhibition of Australian products in London. He invites the co-operation of all business men in the scheme.
