HOSPITAL BOARD ELECTION.

TARANAKI COUNTY CANDIDATES. Messrs. Joseph Brown, J. R. Hill, C. Andrews, and G. V. Tate have been nominated by the Taranaki county for seats on the new Hospital Board. The matter was mentioned at the County Council meeting yesterday by. Cr. Carter, who expressed the hope that the ratepayers would be saved the expense of an election, whi, a would cost about £4O. This expense could be avoided if there were no further nominations, and. whilst not wishing to dictate to the ratepayers in any way, he hoped that they would look at the matter in this light and not run themselves into an election. In any future elections the cost would be very, very small. He" mentioned that Messrs. Brown, Hill, and Andrews were the Council's representatives at present. The Waitara ratepayers had asked the Council last year to endeavor to have Waitara represented, and this could be done very conveniently by appointing Mr. Tate to the fourth seat. The chairman said -that there was really no need for an election, and he hoped the expense would be avoided. At the same time he pointed out that the ratepayers could nominate other candidates if they liked, and let the matter be fought out at the poll.
