KORU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) March 2. I regret to say that Mrs T. W. Mace, who has been ailing for some time, is still in a very delicate state of health, and is causing her family and friends mucTT anxiety,. The annual school picnic and dance, which had to be postponed owing to the inclemency of the weather last Thursday, eventuated yesterday under most favourable conditions. During the day races and games were indulged in, the children having a real good time. At the dance in the evening prizes were distributed to all the children, who in turn presented Mis's Reid with a silver-backed hair brush and comb. Miss Reid, in a most felicitous ittle speech, said the present would always remind her of her pupils and the pleasant gathering at Koru. The ceremony was brought to a close with three hearty cheers' for the teacher. Master George Watson was presented with a first-class certificate, he not having been absent once for seven years. i Dancing then commenced, and was kept [going till 2 o'clock. The supper arrangements were under the able supervision of Mrs. Sutton and Miss Julian, and the dance music was supplied by Mr. Good in his usual faultless style. Mr. W. Mace was an efficient M.C. Mrs. Sullivan sang "Passion Flower," and was warmly applauded; Mr. Vroa contributed a recitation in phasing style. Regret was expressed in nr.Tsy quarters that Mr. G. A. Adlam, who is looked upon as' the father of education in this district was not present, it hav > ing been his custom 'or years past to attend the annual school fete. Our sawing and chopping champions, A. Sullivan and Carlson, are reported to be -in great buckle. Anticipating keen contests at Warea, Okato, and Oakura sports, they are taking no chances. Both are undergoing a careful course of training, so that Koru will be well represented at the above sports. Should there ue any of the "Bar Vons" brigade pres'ent at these gatherings, they would be well advised if they "bar" two.
