On Friday, 25th instant, I held my annual ram fair at Stratford, and, despite the wet weather, there was a good , attendance of buyers. Bidding was ' brisk, and practically everything sold I at the hammer. I yarded some really I first-class sheep considerably above any- J thing that has been offered in the district before. Lincolns made 2gng to 3y 4 gns for best quality 2 and 4-tooth, and from %gn to iy 2 gns for ordinary,) down to y 2 gn tor aged rams; Romneys, i 3Msgnß (short of requirements); Borden Leicester, lgn ; Shropsnires, iy 2 gns. Al-! | together it was a most satisfactory gale j for both buyer and seller.
At Pohokura on Monday I held my : annual sheep fair, hut owing to the \ very wet weather the previous two days and the flooded state of the roads all '' the sheep entered did not come forward. About 4000 were yarded and met with ready sales. There was a good attendance of buyers,, and everything yarded ' changed hands except one pen of oil! : ewes which was passed in. ' Shorn lambs made 8s to 8s Id, do. small 4s 9d, 2- ' tooth ewes (small) 14s, do. Shropshire 12s Id. 4, 6, and f.m. ewes 10s 5d to i 15s fid, f.m. do. 7s lOd to 10s 2d, culls ji 3s 7d to 5s Id, 2-tooth wethers 10s 4d ■' to 12s Bd, 4-tooth Romney rams 2%gns 1 to 3y 2 gns, 6-tooth do. %gn to 2y,gns, 4-tooth Lincoln %gn to l%gns. At Rahotu on Tuesday bidding wag brisk, and everything soid at full market rates. Small weaners made 10s to !, 17s, good.do. 25s to 325, heifer do., Jersey strain, 37s Gd, heifers in calf £3 Is 6d, springing do. £4 2s Gd, forward store cows £3 Os to £3 lis Gd. My weaner fair at Stony River on Wednesday passed off very successfully, bidding being brisk right through the sale, and top prices being realised for the coast. A nice line of mixed calves on account of Mr. Daly reached 395, which was the highest figure for the day. Small weaners made 15s to 21s, medium 24s to 275, good 30s to 395. A nice pen of well-bred Jersey heifers (6 to !) months) made £4. At Waiwakaiho on Thursday weaners made 20s to 355 ; 15 to IS-months heifers £2 7s, 15-months mixed £2 2s 6d, 15 to IS-months steers £2" lis 6d to £2 •12s, 2% to 3-year steers £3 16s to £4, store cows £1 12s Gd to £3 2s Gd, forward do. £3 10s to £4, fat do. £4 10s, springing heifers £4 15s to ,£G 15s, springing cows £4 15s to £G 2s fid, bulls"£3 to £3 17s. At my Uremii supplementary sheep fair held on Thursday nearly double the advertised numbers of sheep came forward. There was a large attendance and good competition right through the sale, young ewes and Romney rams being keenly contested for. Prices for all classes were good, nearly every pen 'being sold at the hammer. Taken on the whole, both as regards the yarding and j the prices, the sale was one of the best which has Ibeen held on the coast this | season. Prices for 2-tooth ewes were < from 15s 5d to 15s lid.
