Lord Minto, in a telegram, states that the Dalai Lama fled against the advice of his council and the National Assembly. Calcutta, March 3. Buddhists at Darjeeling have petitioned China to recall the Chinese Resident at Lhassa, to withdraw the troops, to restore the ruined monasteries, and to reinstate the Dalai Lama. China, in reply to Russia, has intimated that the deposition of the Dalai Lama would not affect the Brahmin .religion or the internal administration of Thibet.
