WAITARA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

(From Our Own "Correspondent.) | The monthly meeting of the Waitara Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, when there were present: His Worship the Mayor, Messrs Black, Spurdle, Tate, Birdling and Rattenbury. The Treasury wrote in reply to the Council stating that the results of the late poll for the loan of £2OOO for the purpose of extending the reticulation in connection with the water supply had been gazetted. . The Valuation Department wrote stating that the revision of the borough had been placed in the hands of Mr. Russell, of New Plymouth, who would proceed with the work at once. The Secretary for Education wrote, informing the Council that there is 110 provision at present whereby subsidy .can be granted to public libraries. The secretary of the North Taranaki Mounted Rifles applied for permission to hold military sports in the Recreation Grounds on Easter Monday. The secretary of the Chamber of Commerce at New Plymouth wrote asking the Council's immediate co-opera- | ,tion in urging the Minister of Railways to restore the old railway time-table 1 without delay. . The Secretary of the Waitara Harb6i' [ Board forwarded til? following resoiui tion passed by that Board: "That the Borough Council's application to carry .pipes across the bridge be granted, and further application to allow sewerage to be carried into the river be granted subject to the approval of the Health Department." The Board also 'forwarded for the Council's consideration the draft Bill, ■stating that clauses 3 and 4 had Been deleted from the Bill. , The secretary of the Waitara Municipal Brass Band wrote applying on behalf of the Band for a subsidy, pointing out that the Band had gone to considerable expense. Messrs Orbell and Mackay forwarded a requisition from the workers at the water race for an advance of wages to 9s per day. The request from the Band for a .subsidy ot £lO was granted, the conditions being ffiat the Band give eight ,open-air concerts during the year. . Resolved that the Council support the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce in the direction of reverting to the old railway time-tables. The Mayor and the town clerk were ! instructed" to proceed to Wanganui to inspect the drainage system and report at next meeting. Accounts amounting to £B9 18s 7d were passed for payment.

All entries must be sealed and addressed to the Secretary. Manaii, with the name, age, color, and pedigree of the horse, and performances, name of owner and trainer, and colors of the rider. Entries by wire must be confirmed at the earliest opportunity in - writing. Owners are particularly reminded tliat all entries must be accompanied by cash, cheque, or Post Office order. This rule will be strictly enforced. Any horse after winning may be rehandicapped. All riders and drivers must appear in proper riding costume, otherwise will ' be fined £1 on each occasion. By entry of, or endeavor to enter, a horse, every person having, or subsequently acquiring, any interest in such horse shall be deemed to accept all the conditions and restrictions imposed or implied by these rules, and to be barred from questioning the action or conduct of the Club or other body holding a sports meeting, or of any oh'icia] of "the Club or such other bod}' in respect of such horse, or of any person connected therewith, otherwise than is provided for in part XXX.—Rule 103.
