FALSE PRETENCES. By Telegraph.—Press' Association. •Wellington, Thursday. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday William Patrick McDermott was' committed for trial on seven charges of forging letters sent in the names of various persons to others, asking for money. James Curtin. alias Carson, was committed for trial on a charge of robbing Donald McKenzie of about C4."i two years ago. In each eas'e the circumstances alleged are that the offences are of the character known as "confidence" tricks.
