The War Office is inviting tenders, •closing on 4th July, for 412,500 twelveounce tins, and 68,700 twenty-four-ounce tins of preserved meat; also a special contract of 75,500 twelve-ounce , and 02,500 twenty-four-ounce tins, all for delivery in October and November. Charles Adams, who was arrested at the end of last year in New York on charges of swindling English people of .£50,000 by means of the ''gold brick" fraud, has been sentenced to 4VI; years' imprisonment.
