SWIMMING.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. The race for the mile championship in connection with the New Plymouth Swimming Club was brought off in the municipal baths last night. There was a very good attendance. Following are the results of the above and other events:— Mile Championship (Mr. Jas. Smith's challenge cup) ; —Pfankuch 1, Turnbull 2. Also started: Wilson, Dixon, Standish and Whitaker. Won comfortably. Time, 30min. 3Ssec. Fifty yards) handicap.—First heat: Dixon (7sec.) 1, Howell (ssec.) 2. Second heat: Whitaker (Usee.) 1, Hawke(7sec.) 2. Third heat: Maxwell (Usee ) 1, Kennedy (9sec.) 2. Final: Dixon 1, Howell 2. * Boys' race, 50 yards—Bowie 1, Bacon 2. Four started. The first race resulted in a dead heat between Bowie and Bacon, and in the swim-off the former just won by a touck.
