RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE TRENTHAM MEETING. | By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, March 1. Arrangements are all complete for the Rifle Association meeting at Trentham. The number of entries has reached GOO, which makes 75 squads, instead of 50 last year. A number of men are already camped on the range, including the Australian team. Taranaki will be well represented at the meeting which commences at Trentham on Friday. Privates A. L. Humphries and Marett (Taranaki Rifles), Sergeant Olliver and.Privates Grover, Blanchard and Hill (Taranaki Guards), and Riflemen -J. D. Christian, H. Baker, J. Guy, J. Rothery, and Harrison (Rahotu Rifle Club), leave here by the mail train this morning. Ri]eman S j Jenkins (Warea Rifle Club), who is ' competing at Greytown en route, left a few days ago. it is also expected that Private Riddles, of tne Guards', who is now on his way back from England, will arrive at Trentham in time to take part. It is also understood t.hat several well-known competitors from Stratford and Kaponga Rifle Chilis have intim»,ed! their intention of attending. Tt is just 33 years since Lieut.-Col. j Okev brought the belt to Taranaki, and ; since then no one from this district has been fortunate enough to secure it, I although on several occasions it has been | well within reach.
