NEW SHIPPING SERVICE.
STARTS IX MAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christehurch, Last Night. Regarding tlie new Canadian-Austral-asian steamship service, tlie general manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the service starts in May and will be a monthly one. The subsidy is at the rate of £24,000 per annum and the contract is for three years. Tlie Canadian port of departure in tlie summer months will be Montreal, and in the winter St. John, and the ports of call Melbourne, Sydney, and the four principal New Zealand ports.
